It is an arts and music festival. Originally launched in 2013, with the Funkfest Beachparty, held in August, the event is relaunching (Post COVID) as Africana Arts & Music Festival. The name evolution is to emphasize a greater focus on the visual and performing fine arts of the African Diaspora. The hiatus because of COVID, has given the organizers the opportunity to build a new team and position the festival as the premier representation of African American culture at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
The festival is October 4-6, 2024. Most events will be at 17th Street park at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. 1701 Atlantic Avenue, next to Dairy Queen. Full schedule will be available here soon.
